The Last Gasp - Short Film

Donation protected
We’re Dan Slater and Norm Countryman, and we’re raising funds to complete our new short film The Last Gasp — a dark, stylish 1950s Film Noir set in the backstreets of Philadelphia. Our goal is $15,000 AUD, and we’ve already invested $5,000 of our own.

Where we’re at — and what you can see right now.

We've wrapped filming! We've just finished filming the final scene, and the footage looks incredible.
We don’t have a trailer yet — it's coming soon — but we can show you something better at this stage: stills straight from the shoot, pulled directly from the camera.

These stills give you a first look at the world we’ve built:

These images aren’t promotional fluff — they’re the real deal, captured on camera, or taken during production. They show exactly what your support is helping us finish.

Why we need your help now:

We need additional funds to move into post‑production.

Your support helps us cover:

* sound mixing
* editing
* colourisation - to get that special crisp black and white look

Every dollar goes directly into finishing the film at the standard the footage deserves.

What the film is about:

The Last Gasp is classic Noir with a wicked grin.
Chester Patton, an easygoing salesman for a glass company, makes one tiny mistake — and watches his life spiral into chaos. A simple steak dinner becomes the first domino in a chain of bad luck, worse decisions, and the kind of spiralling misfortune Noir fans live for.

Expect the full cast of archetypes:

* the Femme Fatale
* the Gnarled Detective
* the Best Friend’s Wife
* the hapless Patsy
* and Lady Luck herself — though she’s not on Chester’s side

It’s an original story with the flavour of early Coen Brothers, filtered through Dan’s own fevered imagination.

Our commitment:

We’re fully invested — financially and creatively.
We’ve already put in $5,000 and pushed through an ambitious shoot from 29 January to 8 March.

How you can help:

* Donate — every contribution, big or small, genuinely moves us closer to the finish line.
* Share the campaign with friends, film lovers, and anyone who enjoys a good story.
* Volunteer your time or skills if you’re local and want to be part of the post production.

Thank you for helping us bring The Last Gasp home.
We can’t wait to share more stills — and eventually the finished film — with you.

— Dan & Norm
