Tegan’s 55 mile cycle
Hello everyone!
On the 15th of September I will be cycling 55 miles from London to Brighton. Now for anyone who knows me I am not the fittest person, this is going to be a huge challenge mentally and physically. I have no idea of what I’m doing but It’s important to me to raise awareness for mental health as I have struggled with my own. I know how important these charities are as I know what the NHS mental health system looks like. i’ve been lost in the system, repeatedly referred to different doctors, constantly been denied help, no matter how loud I shout. I know what it’s like to feel like the world better off without you . But I’m here to show you, you’re worthy. I am fortunate enough to have family and friends and a solid support system that can help me when I’m feeling overwhelmed. Unfortunately some people are not as lucky.
My hope is that with more donations these charities will be able to help more people and hopefully prevent other people from getting lost in the system.
After a recent diagnosis, i felt disheartened, abandoned and frustrated and at first I thought i was never going to live a normal life. That this ‘diagnosis’ would constantly taunt me and for a moment I thought ‘this is all I’ll ever be’ But that’s not true.
I want to show people that you’re not your ‘illness’ and it doesn’t have to stop or prevent you from actually living your life. Lastly and this goes without saying but check on your quiet, loud, annoying, funny friends. You never know what someone’s going through, even a simple hello could save a life.
So join me on my journey of self love, physical health and improving my mental health because it’s going to be one of the hardest challenges I’ve ever faced.
