Houston, we have a liftoff!
Help send our team NARWHALS to represent Australia at the FIRST® Lego League World Championships!
Please note: We are also seeking sponsorship and fund-raising in other ways. If we reach our target early, we will stop fundraising, and end our gofundme campain early.
FIRST is a global STEM competition with almost 700 000 competitors work wide. FLL in WA is presented by Curtin and was the Chevron Science Engagement Initiative of the Year in 2021 Premier's science awards. This year there were 38 regional competitions held across Australia with 24 to 60 teams in each regional meet.
Our team NARWHALS won the National Championships competition held at Curtin University on Saturday 7th December 2024. They have been invited to represent Australia at the FIRST World Championships, which will be held in Houston USA in April 2025.
FIRST® LEGO League (FLL) introduces science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to children through fun, exciting hands-on learning. Participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program, helping today’s students and teachers build a better future together. However, this competition encompasses more than only a robot game. It is divided into four equally weighted areas (Innovation, Robot design and programming, The robot game and Core Values (Soft skills) which makes this competition unique.
For this year's competition, the theme is “Submerged” and teams had to explore the theme of oceans and use creative thinking to explore technologies applicable to water. The Narwhals have researched the feasibility and benefits of stabilising floating offshore wind turbines using gyroscopic technology developed by VEEM Ltd. Their goal is to present an alternative proposal to Copenhagen Energy for their Leeuwin Offshore Wind Farm whereby many of the environmental concerns are negated by having less infrastructure to support the turbines in waters up to approximately 350m deep.
They wish to engage with companies who are committed to a better energy future to share their ideas.
By sponsoring our team, you are indicating your commitment to:
• Creating a cleaner energy future and supporting the government's target of reaching zero emissions by 2050.
• The importance of STEM in student and school education
• Equality in building a technology-literate workforce for both males and females.
• Learner Competencies in young people such as Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication and Agency
in students which are needed in future employees.
Funds raised will help students and their families afford the cost of flights ($28,800.00) and accomodation ($21,150.00).
As you can imagine, getting to the international event is going to be costly for the families of the students in the team. Support from our community and others to help these students attend this opportunity of a lifetime will be immensely appreciated.
Please help to get these kids on the plane to America!
See what the team are doing here
It is an amazing opportunity and I am sure they will do us proud!
Every dollar counts!
