Tazanian kids want computer skills for tomorrow!

Help us renovate, furnish and set up a classroom so our students can develop critical computer skills necessary for continued learning and access to future opportunities.

ABOUT THIS CAMPAIGN
  • 1HUMANITY program students at the Majani ya Chai Secondary School in Dar es Salaam asked us to help them learn computer and other skills necessary to excel in their world of tomorrow. The School Head Master acknowledged the students' initiative, recognized this need, and assigned an unused classroom to 1HUMANITY for these programs.
  • The great news is that with our 2021 donor support, we were able to transport seven laptops to Tanzania, which has allowed us to begin computer skills instruction in temporary facilities on campus. We plan to do more once the Computer + Learning Lab is occupied for student instruction. The permanent, dedicated room we are working to create will allow us to continue and expand these student programs not currently part of their school curriculum.

  • So, now we need to make repairs and prepare the room for learning. To do this, we need to raise $6,250 for material, labor, furniture, supplies and operation costs (for a breakdown of these costs  and other information regarding the  Computer  + Learning Lab, see the  Classroom Renovation tab on the 1HUMANITY website  )

This is what the future 1HUMANITY Computer + Learning Lab on the Majani ya Chai Secondary School campus looks like now.
Repairs are necessary both on the outside and inside of our future Computer + Learning Lab .
This is what the inside of the room looks like now. The 1HUMANITY  Tanzania Program Director, Warioba Nyuberere, is surveying the repairs that are required.

We have work to do before  the room is ready for the students to continue learning!

THE NEED OUR CAMPAIGN WILL ADDRESS
  • There is a substantial digital divide in Tanzanian schools with less than 1,200 working computers available to 1 million government secondary school students. (the equivalent to U.S. public high schools). This translates to less than 0.5% of Tanzanian secondary students having access to a computer and even less than that having access to the internet.
  • Computer literacy for our students is directly linked to increasing their future opportunities to successfully graduate from university, obtain higher paying jobs, and create positive change for their families, communities and country. Digital opportunities have a significant and far-reaching impact on increasing inclusion and reducing poverty in Tanzania.

USE OF DONATIONS
  • So, here is what we need to do: 1) renovate our dedicated classroom where the computers will stay safely at the school and where the students will have an optimal learning space. 2) Once the Computer  + Learning Lab is operational, we will focus on obtaining  additional laptops so that we can teach two computer classes to two groups of 30 students without them having to share computers. 3) Continue to provide internet access to the school. 4) Provide relevant books and learning materials for enhanced computer training. 5) Provide the necessary educational and training software to our students.
