Vancouver Hack Space fund raiser 2020
Donation protected
Vancouver Hack Space is an entirely volunteer run, not for profit community workshop that makes tools, equipment, and workshop space available to makers of all income levels. Since we opened in 2008, almost all of our funding has come from memberships and workshops. Early last year we moved into a new space after our old space was demovicted. The new and expanded location gives us an opportunity to offer new services to the community, including larger metal and wood shops. The building itself required hundreds of hours of volunteer work and a fair amount of financial outlay to bring out its potential.
Covid-19 has hit us hard at a time when we were on our way to growing in to enough members to sustain this new home. Not only have some members needed to cut off their memberships, it has made it almost impossible to recruit new ones or to offer workshops. This has hit us at the core of how we operate.
We urgently could use your help to pay the rent and keep the lights on until BC is fully opened again. The new space's baseline costs increased with the move, but our membership was growing to make up the shortfall, and prior to the Covid-19 crisis we were well on track to return to financial sustainability. We realize that many of you are also in similar financial situations so if funds are not available, please share our call for help.
Your Donation will mean that the Vancouver Hack Space will be here after Covid-19 has calmed down. Due to the unusual nature of VHS's business model, we fall outside of most of the government stimulus programs. We have been granted a deferral of some of our rent, but not a reprieve. With your help, we will be able to resume offering members a place to come make things and talk and share with people of all sorts of experience. We can continue offering workshops on everything from woodworking to coding to laser cutting to teaching kids to solder at community events.
Thank you. Your help means so much to us.
