Hi Everyone,
I am Basanta Pahari from the city of Pokhara, Nepal and currently live in Hawaii, US. I spent 19 years of my life in Pokhara and I believe the time I spent in Pokhara was the most beautiful time of my life. Unfortunately, today I would like to update everyone with the news that is so painful for me to bear and I would like to ask for help.
The recent devastating earthquake that struck Nepal has claimed more than 5000 lives and has left countless people homeless. The death toll is expected to surge significantly as rescuers struggle to reach remote villages. A significant number of people are spending nights out in open areas without proper food, water and sanitation. There is no doubt that this tragic earthquake has been heart wrenching and the loss of lives and suffering that it has brought is unbearable. Despite the Nepali government and international efforts, many victims of this catastrophic event are finding themselves without any hope of support. I would like to provide a helping hand to as many people as we can. Many of my neighbors, the residents of my city, villages close to my city and the friends who live in Katmandu and other earthquake affected area have suffered a significant blow from this tragic event. Many of them are unable to get assistance from the government so I would like to help. To help, I will either personally go to Nepal and distribute the collected funds to those who are in need in my neighborhood and beyond, or have it sent to a trustworthy person/entity who are able to report how the money is being used. We plan to provide in average a support of 10000 NRP($100) to each household who have either lost their house or to those who are injured and are unable to pay for the health care. Unless the funds are distributed in person to those who need it, there is no guarantee that the money will reach to the victims. I am sorry to say, but most Nepali politicians and many "non profit organizations" are like a black hole; they are infamous for being corrupt .
Note: $100 is a significant amount of money in Nepal and goes way farther than here in the United States. Moreover, this fund will not be used for my travel or any expenses that relates to me. Lastly, I will provide every donor with a copy of the report of how the money was spent. The report will be posted on my Facebook and/or Gofundme.com with appropriate documentation.
