SW Coast path trip

Stories are important.  Stories about people, about place and time.  Stories are ultimately how we as humans pass on knowledge and learning and connect us across generational and cultural divides. I've worked in sustainability for over twenty years now.  I've lectured on adapting and mitigating to a changing climate and am well versed in the facts but have also been involved in delivering environmental change boots on the ground.  From dealing with hazardous waste, cleaning up sewage systems, installing renewables and energy efficiency. What I've noticed over the years is that giving people facts is often just not enough.  To my mind one of the missing pieces is the story telling about change.  How it has affected people already, not just how it could affect people in the future. The Covid pandemic of 2020 has meant that I've had a lot more time to mull this over, and the time to plan to do my small part.  Now it's time to take the next step and actually crack on. So. What I'm intending to do, and this is where you come in hopefully, is to walk the entire six-hundred-and-thirty miles of the SW coast path.  To take the coasts of Dorset, Devon, Cornwall and Somerset who represent a living breathing record of the effects of change and record what I see on the journey. I'm hoping to use the two months of walking to meet the people who live along that coastline and to collect personal stories of living with change. It is then my plan to write a book based on the walk and the stories I encounter. What I'm asking for is a little financial help in the getting this part of the journey done.  Just something towards the costs of kit, food and the time to write. Being furloughed for foreseeable future with potential redundancy in near future means that I'm having to be really careful and need to ask for some help. It's my intention to complete the walk by Autumn 2020. I will then hope to self publish a short initial run of hardcover books. The first thirty donations over £20 will get a signed copy of my previous book (the self published Drove Cottage which was first run as essays on the caught by the river website Here ).  These will be posted out first class within a week of donation being made. For any donation over £10 I will send an 8x10" print on fine art paper of any image taken on the way round that you choose.  Images of mine as examples can be seen on Instagram (Here ).  These will be posted out after the walk is complete, unless you'd like a print of an existing image of course which can be sent sooner.
