Hi everyone,

As many of you know, I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. I feel lucky that its treatable with an operation and radiotherapy, however, the news has come as a huge shock and while I am trying to stay as positive as I can, reality is that it’s my dominant side and my tennis arm! The biggest nightmare for me and Amanda, is I will be out of action for up to 8 weeks for recovery. Although I will be itching to get back on court as soon as I can, everyone is advising me to recover properly and take the time my body needs. This is causing great anxiety as I will have no income. I’d rather ask my clients and friends for help than draw from cancer charities, so those funds can continue supporting people with fewer options.

Since moving to Cornwall in December, I’ve been working hard to build my tennis coaching business. After the challenges of being self-employed during Covid, I finally felt like things were coming together. But now, just as life and work were getting back on track, I need to take time away from the court once again for treatment and recovery.

As a self-employed coach, time off means a sudden stop in income. With no insurance to fall back on, it’s a difficult and uncertain time.
