Detective Sergeant Troy Burchell of Bankstown Police Area Command recently experienced a serious medical emergency that required urgent hospitalisation and surgery. Further medical investigation has since confirmed a diagnosis of Metastatic Melanoma (Stage 4), and Troy now faces a prolonged period of treatment and recovery.
Yesterday afternoon, Troy required another emergency surgery after multiple blood clots were discovered in his lungs and one in his heart. He is currently back in ICU and recovering under close medical care. Despite everything he is facing, Troy continues to show remarkable strength, awareness and determination.
Troy’s wife, Carley, has had to step away from her employment to care for him full-time and to support their three children — Braith, Grace and Miley. The family has expressed deep gratitude for the kindness, practical support and well wishes received from colleagues, friends and the wider community during this challenging time.
As Troy’s recovery continues through this week and beyond, the medical, rehabilitation and specialist costs will place considerable financial pressure on the family. In recognition of Troy’s more than 25 years of dedicated service to the NSW Police Force, we are reaching out across the state to ask for support.
In his 25 years of service he has worked at Auburn, Parramatta, Campbelltown, Macquarie Fields and Bankstown.
A GoFundMe page has been established to assist the Burchell family. Any contribution — no matter the amount — will help ease the burden and allow Carley and the children to focus on Troy’s ongoing recovery.
On behalf of Bankstown PAC and the Burchell family, thank you for your compassion, generosity and ongoing support.
