Hello, my name is Briana Flores, and I am reaching out on behalf of my beloved friend, Lisa Riddle. Lisa and I met 15 years ago in the fast-paced, wild world of advertising. Over time, she's become more than just a colleague—she’s my mentor, my best friend, a sister, an aunt to my daughter, and, most of all, family.

Tuesday afternoon, we were texting back and forth about how windy it was. Then, at 7:30 pm, she sent me a message I’ll never forget—she and her family had to evacuate their home in Altadena immediately. In the following 12 hours, their lives were turned upside down by an unimaginable tragedy.

First, her sister Monica and her husband, James, woke up to find their home reduced to ashes. They have two children, Xavi and Madi, who are now without a place to call home. As if that wasn’t enough, when James and Monica went to check on Lisa's home, they found it gone as well. Two family homes, wiped out, just blocks apart.

What’s even harder to comprehend is the scale of this devastation—whole neighborhoods vanished. Streets are lined with nothing but chimneys, doorways, and burnt-out cars. These homes? They’re gone. I had the immense privilege of officiating Don and Bertha Riddle’s 50th wedding vow renewal in 2021, right in the backyard of their beautiful home, with the mountains as a stunning backdrop. That home—where love and memories were so deeply rooted—is now gone. We used to look out of Lisa’s window and see the snow-capped peaks, go on hikes around the corner. It’s all just… gone.
