Hi, I'm Robin Underwood & this is my Husband Ryan Underwood. We were transferred here (Opelika,Alabama) from West TEXAS in 2022. Found a lovely neighborhood to build our first ever dream home. We were so happy. Ryan working for AT&T for over 12 years making very good money & get promoted to Manager of Network Serives. Alongside comes a nice income increase. But for me at that time I had no job. But the move was still exiting. My crohns disease had finally gone into remission. We rented for a year but then could not extend our lease, so we spoke long and hard about maybe it being the right to build our dream home. Things were moving right along until they weren't. November 2023 comes along, one week before our anniversary, my birthday, and Thanksgiving, the Area manager that Ryan was working for at AT&T decided to tell Ryan that his services were no longer needed with AT&T. This was a devastating blow to us. Ryan had found a job with the contractor for AT&T, the area manager that had released Ryan found out and had the subcontractor release Ryan. No matter what the media may say, the job market is geared for high-school kids looking for their first job. We had been doing OK to live. July 2024 comes and a massive hit comes, I am diagnosed with triple negative invasive ductal carcinoma. This was devastating news. Ryan and I still had no insurance so certain decisions needed to be made. Pay the doctors, or pay the bills. Yes, I understand that they have to treat me, but when the doctors give an ultimatum of needing money upfront prior to any procedure, what suffers, the other bills. Ryan will do anything he can for us. I do everything I can to make sure I show how much I appreciate all that he does. Needless to say we had fallen. Behind on several bills, we had contacted several cancer organizations about financial assistance, unfortunately most of these foundations are limited to what they can do. We do appreciate the help, guidance and support they have shown, but we are still short. Thank the Lord that one week prior to any cancer surgery, that includes reconstruction, Ryan was hired by a company that his benefits started day 1. This did ease the burden of medical expenses. But it still remains the other bills that we had to forgo are still there. We will do anything for anyone, within reason when it is needed. We do not ask for anything and are grateful for those in our circle that have helped with meals, prayers, support and love. This burden of debit should never be an issue when one is going though cancer. The nature of business is to make money no matter the hardship. All we are asking is for a hand up, not a hand out.
