Priscila Alvares Pereira Dos Santos gave her life saving a 9-year-old Brazilian-American girl from drowning in the Delaware River near Delran, New Jersey.

On the afternoon of August 24, Priscila saw the young girl struggling in the water and went in to save her.

She reached the child and helped push her toward shore, where others were able to pull the girl safely from the river.

The little girl survived. Priscila did not.

After an extensive search, Priscila's body was recovered the following morning, August 25 — what would have been her 34th birthday.

She leaves behind her husband, Alex, and their two children, just 9 and 3 years old.

In a matter of moments, Alex lost his wife and partner, and two young children lost their mother.

What Priscila did in the final moments of her life was extraordinary. But to those who knew her, her instinct to help someone else was entirely consistent with the woman she had always been.

Priscila was a devoted mother and wife, a woman of faith, a loyal friend and someone who worked incredibly hard for her family.

Originally from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, she came to the United States approximately five years ago determined to build a better future for her children. She cleaned homes for a living and worked hard alongside Alex to build a life for their family in New Jersey.

Her children were the center of her world.

Friends remember Priscila as joyful, strong and generous — someone who was always ready to help, whether through her words, her time or her actions. She loved taking her children out and watching them enjoy parks, beaches, lakes and the simple moments they shared together.

Her youngest child is only 3 years old and is autistic. Priscila played an especially important role in his daily care and support.

Alex now faces an unimaginable reality: grieving his wife while becoming the sole parent and provider for their two young children.

He was unable to work throughout the search and immediate aftermath of the tragedy, and the family now faces funeral expenses, lost income, childcare needs and the much larger challenge of building a stable future for two children growing up without their mother.

We created this fundraiser to help give Alex and the children that stability.

Priscila Alvares Pereira Dos Santos deu a própria vida para salvar uma menina brasileira-americana de 9 anos que estava se afogando no Rio Delaware, próximo a Delran, em New Jersey.

Na tarde de 24 de agosto, Priscila viu a menina em perigo na água e entrou no rio para salvá-la.

Ela conseguiu chegar até a criança e ajudá-la a se aproximar da margem, onde outras pessoas conseguiram retirá-la da água em segurança.

A menina sobreviveu. Priscila não conseguiu voltar.

Após horas de buscas, o corpo de Priscila foi encontrado na manhã seguinte, dia 25 de agosto — justamente no dia em que ela completaria 34 anos.

Priscila deixa o marido, Alex, e dois filhos pequenos, de apenas 9 e 3 anos.

Em questão de minutos, Alex perdeu sua esposa e companheira, e duas crianças perderam a mãe.

O que Priscila fez nos últimos momentos de sua vida foi extraordinário. Mas, para quem a conhecia, seu impulso de ajudar alguém em perigo dizia muito sobre a mulher que ela sempre foi.

Priscila era uma mãe e esposa dedicada, uma mulher de fé, uma amiga leal e uma pessoa extremamente trabalhadora.

Natural de Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, ela veio para os Estados Unidos há aproximadamente cinco anos, determinada a construir um futuro melhor para os filhos. Trabalhava fazendo limpeza de casas e, ao lado de Alex, lutava todos os dias para construir uma vida para a família em New Jersey.

Os filhos eram o centro da vida de Priscila.

Amigos se lembram dela como uma mulher alegre, forte e generosa, sempre pronta para ajudar — com uma palavra, com seu tempo ou com suas atitudes. Ela adorava levar os filhos para passear e vê-los felizes em parques, praias, lagos e nos momentos simples que passavam juntos.

Seu filho mais novo tem apenas 3 anos e é autista. Priscila tinha um papel especialmente importante em seus cuidados e em sua rotina diária.

Alex agora enfrenta uma realidade inimaginável: viver o luto pela esposa enquanto assume sozinho a responsabilidade de cuidar e sustentar os dois filhos pequenos.

Durante as buscas e nos primeiros dias após a tragédia, ele não conseguiu trabalhar. A família agora enfrenta as despesas do funeral, a perda de renda, os cuidados com as crianças e, acima de tudo, o enorme desafio de construir um futuro estável para dois filhos que crescerão sem a mãe.
