Support Our Shy Vet's RV Purchase

Hello, you amazing helpers! My name is April Hilland, I live in Leander, and I've been working toward purchasing an RV for our shy veteran who was flooded out of his home off of Sandy Creek on the eve of July 4th.

Our guy, S, is a veteran who fought in Afghanistan and now keeps very much to himself, living very simply but happily. Now, this fellow currently has only a tent and a cot to his name; what little he owned was washed away. He is a bit too "people shy" to ask for help or fill out forms. He has no means of communication and no vehicle. He is a kind man who helps his neighbors out wherever he can and they look after him, too. Sandy Creek is his home.

He needs a new home (out of the flood plain this time!), so my friends (his neighbors) asked me if I would find one for him. I posted out to you fine folks on FB a few days ago and, almost immediately, a personal friend of mine threw in $10K for me to find a good used RV for him!! (I'm still in awe - This donor is super special.)

I located the perfect floorplan for his needs and, after sharing the whole story with the dealership, they let me buy it at their cost + tax, title and license. The good hearted people at Ron Hoover RV in Georgetown will make nothing on the deal. BUT, we are still shy of having it all paid for and still need $3,240 to do the deal and get the RV to our vet.

I have complete faith that we can raise the additional money needed to purchase this new home for him. I put money down to hold it so we don't lose it but I need your help to complete the purchase. It's so perfect for his needs, just enough for him to have a cosy, air conditioned space with a fridge and lights and short enough for him to stay out of the flood plain.

If you folks who are following along can just put a little bit of money toward this, I know we can reach the goal of $3,240. If it goes over that amount, I'll make sure our veteran gets the remainder for his savings account, to have "something put by" and to pay for utilities. I will stop the fundraiser at $4,000, should that happen.

Updated verbiage: With these funds, you will allow me to reimburse myself for the balance of the purchase of the RV, which I’ve already purchased and is nonrefundable. Your donations will also be used to provide him with a bit of cash and to reimburse me for the contents of the RV that I couldn’t find in donation centers and had to purchase elsewhere.

In the VERY unlikely event that Steve turns down the RV (he’s already seen it and is overjoyed that it will be gifted to him), I will not keep it and will gift the RV and it’s contents to someone in Steve’s same circumstances in the Sandy Creek area. I would, of course, run this by all donors before doing so.
