Our dad, Orlando, has lived in the United States for over 30 years, longer than he has lived anywhere else. He built his life here, worked hard, and raised his family here.
Everything changed last month, February 10, when he was unexpectedly apprehended during a routine check-in appointment, with no notice and no time to prepare. Faced with the reality of remaining in detention with no clear timeline, he made the incredibly difficult decision to be sent to Mexico rather than continue fighting his case from inside detention.
His removal escalated so fast and we ended up losing contact with him for several days but we are grateful to now be back in contact with him.
Right now, he is in a country that has never been home to him, trying to navigate an extremely unfamiliar system. Our immediate focus is helping him stay safe and stable during this transition. We are currently raising funds to support:
* Temporary housing
* Food and daily necessities
* Transportation
* Phone and communication access
* Access to legal guidance
We are especially concerned about the gap between where he is now and how long it may take for him to become legally established in Mexico.
Maintaining stability for what will most likely be an extended period of time is the challenge. However, our long-term goal has not changed. We remain committed to exploring every possible option to bring him back to the United States, to the life and family he has built over the past 30+ years…
If you’ve taken the time to read, share, or donate, thank you. It truly means so much
