What began as severe chest pain quickly turned into a life-threatening emergency when Nick was rushed to Summit ER and diagnosed with an aortic dissection and a pericardial effusion.

Because of the snowstorm yesterday, Nick had to be transported by ambulance to Payson before he could be airlifted to Banner University Medical Center. There, he endured an 8-hour open-heart surgery that ultimately saved his life. Thanks to the incredible medical team, Nick survived—but his road to recovery is just beginning.

Nick now faces a long and challenging recovery ahead. Once he is discharged from the hospital, he will need to enter rehabilitation to regain his strength. The emotional, physical, and financial toll of emergency transport, surgery, hospitalization, rehab, and ongoing care is overwhelming.

If you know Nick, you know he is the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back. He goes above and beyond to help everyone around him without hesitation. He is the best papa to his grandkids, and they absolutely adore him. Now, it’s our turn to lift him up the way he has lifted so many others.
