UPDATE!
My studio, Prana Prenatal Yoga & Birth Information, is one of two Black-owned yoga studios in Westchester County, NY. Prana was recently featured in Westchester Magazine's first-ever Maternity Guide! We are hosting virtual offerings (prenatal/postnatal yoga classes, support groups, and various workshops) as well as socially distanced indoor classes three days a week. Given the steady rise of positive COVID cases in our area, we are unsure how long we will be able to host socially distanced indoor offerings. Prana is committed to fostering a sense of community, and your donations will greatly help us ride the waves as we hopefully avoid a second lockdown.
Hi everyone! My name is Marissa, founder of MariVee Wellness. I am a Yoga Alliance RYT-200 teacher, trained in prenatal/postnatal yoga, a Next Generation Yoga Teacher ages 2-12, and am currently pursuing my RCYT certification. Oh, and I’m opening up a yoga studio!
My studio will be focusing on the bump, birth, baby, and beyond. We will be offering:
· Virtual and in-person classes and workshops
· Information on birth/postpartum doulas and lactation specialists
· Bilingual (Spanish) classes in the near future
· Scholarships for women and families from underserved communities to take our yoga classes and workshops
The environment will be a welcoming space to everyone, including those who don’t fit the general image associated with yoga in Western culture. Prenatal yoga changed my life and is what ultimately put me on the path of becoming a yoga teacher. Opening this studio is my way of empowering women and families while also addressing the lack of diversity in our health and wellness industry. Yoga is for everybody and for every body.
Given who we serve, we owe it to our community to offer our services in a setting that is both comfortable and safe, beyond the standards set by NYS. The funds will make sure that we can safely open in-person as soon as we hit Phase Four (projected date of July 7) without delay, allowing us to secure more cleaning, sanitizing, and protective equipment. The funds will also ensure we have a steady schedule of high quality virtual live classes to make sure everyone has access to our services, regardless of where they are located.
There are two ways to help:
· Give! Any and every amount helps and will be greatly appreciated
· Share on your most influential forms of social media
Thank you, and Namaste!
