Support Layla's Journey to Become a Surgeon
Donazione protetta
Hi, my name is Layla! I am currently a first-year student at College of the Canyons. I am a first-generation college student, as well as an aspiring woman in STEM! My long-term goal career-wise is to become a surgeon. Right now, I’m specifically interested in neuro or craniofacial surgery. The purpose of my GoFundMe is to raise money to help fund myself through university and medical school.
To become a surgeon, I have to obtain my bachelor’s degree as well as go through medical school. With this comes the inevitable fees, tuition, textbooks, etc. in which all donations will be directly used for.
Anything helps, and everything is immensely appreciated!
My dream university is UCLA. Not only do they have amazing programs for pre-med and great campus life, but they also have endless opportunities, such as the David Geffen School of Medicine. I’ve thought about this since eighth grade and have done tours of the campus as well as seminars for information on the school.
Another school I am interested in is UC Irvine. Both schools are local enough so that I won’t have to spend extra money to dorm on campus.
I am actively engaged in campus life by being a part of the MESA program, the S-STEM Scholars program, the Honors program, Project Sol, being a Promise student, and more. I am passionate about STEM, especially learning about biology and the human body. I am ambitious and determined to learn!
What made me really realize that this is for me is a Human Anatomy and Physiology class I took my junior year of high school. I loved learning about everything and looked forward to each class meeting. I was so driven and determined I got the opportunity to aid in setting up the lab practical for a dissection we had been working on throughout the semester. I learned a lot through this experience, one of which being that my potential is as much as I make it. As long as I put my best foot forward I am capable of accomplishing my goals. Another thing I discovered is how much there is to learn about what the human body is capable of, and how medicine plays a role in that.
While my goal is to become a surgeon, I am passionate about school and learning, and am grateful and blessed to have the opportunity to pick such a rigorous career choice.
Lastly, I want to reiterate that any donations are greatly appreciated and will be going towards something powerful and meaningful.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read through my story!
