Support Kylie's Study Abroad in Ghana

Hello, my name is Kylie Peters-Liverpool, and I’m a senior at Smith College, where I’m majoring in Psychology and minoring in Statistical & Data Science. I’m incredibly excited to share that I’ve been accepted into the CIEE January Study Abroad program in Legon, Accra, Ghana! I will be studying at the University of Ghana, focusing on a course about Culture & Reproductive Health, which explores how cultural, social, and economic factors shape reproductive health outcomes, including family planning, maternal health, and HIV/AIDS.

As an aspiring Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), my goal is to support and advocate for marginalized communities, particularly youth. Growing up as a minority myself, I know how important it is to have access to culturally competent care and services. Programs like this one allow me to broaden my perspective and develop the knowledge I need to be a stronger advocate for those who often go unheard. Through this program, I will also be able to engage directly with local communities, learning from their experiences and resilience. I hope to use this knowledge to support young people in my own community, particularly those facing challenges related to mental health, family dynamics, and access to healthcare. By understanding the intersections of culture, health, and social systems, I can better serve others, advocate for policy changes, and contribute to the destigmatization of a plethora of health issues.

However, the cost of this program is significant, and I have exhausted all funding options at my institution. As a first generation, low income student currently receiving financial aid my financial abilities are limited, I’m reaching out to my community for support. Any contribution, big or small, will help me make this opportunity a reality and equip me with the skills and experiences needed to make a lasting impact back home. All donations will directly go towards airfare, tuition, & housing expenses.
