Support Jennifer’s Long Road to Recovery

On Monday the 18th, our dear friend and chosen sister, Jennifer Spann, was admitted into the ICU at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Jenn is a thyroid cancer survivor, and has lupus & asthma as well, and was struggling to breathe. She was in the process of moving and the stress was too much on her body and caused a severe inflammation response. She has been hospitalized ever since.

Jenn’s case has been a difficult one to treat to say the least. She is in acute respiratory failure, has been receiving oxygen 24/7, has an extremely high resting heart rate, pneumonia in her right lung, unable to move on her own, and has received close to 170 nebulizer treatments. And her oxygen levels are still no higher than 90. She has officially been on Q2 respiratory treatments longer than anybody else at VUMC in 20 years.

Despite it all, Jenn is a fighter, and her spirits remain strong. She is a loving mother to her three year-old son, Ryman, and he is her main motivation to get better. But as you can imagine the stress of the past couple of weeks has been immeasurable for her. We want to relieve some that stress by helping with the financial burden that all of this is causing (while also on top of the already expensive costs of moving) so she can focus her energy on getting healthy again.

Jennifer is a fiercely devoted friend and a wonderful, attentive mother. The help of her community in her time of need would be so greatly appreciated and we can promise she will pay it forward because that’s just who Jenn is as person. She has a long road of recovery ahead of her, but it is one we won’t let her face alone. Please help us help her heal and start a new chapter in her life, in her new home, with her son.
