Dear friends and neighbors,
Hurricane Melissa destroyed Jamaica on October 28th. While I was comfortable at home and at school, celebrating fall festivals and getting ready for Halloween, the Jamaican people were taking shelter from this horrible storm.
When I was a baby in NYC, my father was stationed in Afghanistan with the US Army and my mother was working full time. That is when we met Imogene, my awesome nanny who took care of me while my dad was deployed and my mom was working. Imogene is from Montego Bay and she, and her community, no longer have homes because they've been destroyed. They don't have a grocery store, a church, or even an airport. We are so lucky that Imogene was safely working the US when the storm occurred, but her house in Montego Bay and community are destroyed.
