Jack Crawford, a senior at Birch Run High School has been diagnosed with and is undergoing treatment for Ewing Sarcoma, a childhood cancer that develops in the bones and soft tissue.
In August of 2023, Jack began to have pain in his hip especially while participating in sports. He was seen at an urgent care in March where he had an x-ray and was told it was likely muscles or tendons that were not healing due to his continued sports activities. In April, he was sent to a sports medicine doctor who noticed "something" on his x-ray. An MRI in May diagnosed his cancer as Ewing Sarcoma. Jack's femur was the cause of his pain. He has been undergoing chemoradiation treatments at Beaumont Croswell in Royal Oak. He is required to stay for 5 days with every other day treatment for 12 weeks. His mother Shannon, a single parent, has been attending as many rounds of treatment and appointments as possible but has used all of her vacation time and PTO. She can no longer afford time off work to go to treatments with him. Her job supports the household and provides insurance so Jack can continue with treatment. He is scheduled for surgery in October to remove the tumor or undergo hip joint replacement based on the effectiveness of treatment. He will then undergo another 14 weeks of chemoradiation treatment. The goal of this event is to alleviate some of the everyday expenses while Jack undergoes treatment and continues to recover. As a community, please consider donating to this young man and his family to help with expenses while he undergoes treatment. Because In this family, no one fights alone. GO TEAM JACK!
