Dear friends, colleagues, and mentors,

We are writing as friends of Hala Habib. Our dear Hala was diagnosed with breast cancer this July. Hala was about to begin her sixth year as a PhD student in Anthropology at Columbia University. She will have to go on medical leave for the fall semester of 2025, which allows her to maintain access to medical insurance but leaves her with no stipend or income at a critical time.

We are asking you as members of her community to support her by donating to this GoFundMe. All funds will go directly to Hala’s recovery, including medical bills not covered by insurance.

From Vancouver, to Harlem, to Kabul, Hala is an absolute pillar for so many of us. She’s the source of so much joy, generosity, and community. We are extremely lucky to be able to enjoy her loyal friendship and witness her indefatigable spirit as a scholar, activist, and neighbor. Hala is facing a tremendous battle with cancer in the months ahead. Anything you can donate would be a huge help.
