Support for Ukrainian refugees we're hosting

Donation protected
Since the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, my dad’s brother Michał, located in Prusiek, Poland (roughly 1.5hrs away from Ukraine) did the thing that thousands of Polish citizens did without batting an eye: he took in a Ukrainian mother and her two children from Lviv. He was planning to host an additional 7 people (those folks however ventured further into Western Europe so that plan never came to fruition; the will was there!)

As I’m writing this on May 16th, 2022, the 81st day of the Russian aggression, the family is still being hosted by my uncle: Anastazja is 17 years old and her autistic brother is 7 years old. In the early days, they were hoping to get Anastazja to Canada, as they have relatives there. Unfortunately, those plans haven’t panned out. The father remains in Lviv, and as a construction worker (his primary occupation), his livelihood is severely impacted and isn’t allowed to leave the country due to the military draft being in effect. It’s a tough situation and 6 million other displaced Ukrainians looking for safe haven in Poland are trying to survive.

That said, there is *some* money coming due to the Government but it's insufficient to say the least. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Each refugee receives a one-time payment of 300zł ($67) to cover their basic needs upon entry
  • My uncle receives 1200zł /month ($268) per person he takes to cover housing, food costs, etc. This stimulus will be in effect for 60 days, and it’s currently looking unlikely to be extended

I know times are tough, I know we’re feeling the sting of record-breaking inflation, and that the Putin’s Gas Hike is real, but I wouldn’t be turning to GoFundMe if I didn’t feel the need was there.

Money won’t be able to turn back time of the horrors of this war, but it will give them options for the foreseeable future. This war has tested Ukraine - and the world - to an unimaginable extent. So if you have $5, $10, or $15 you can spare, we’d be eternally grateful. ALL proceeds will go directly to Anastazja and her family.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me via [email redacted].(dot)com. I’ll answer every email.
