My name is Jose, and I am reaching out on behalf of my beloved wife, Claudia Celis.

At just 46 years old, Claudia was diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimer’s—a rare and devastating illness, especially for someone so young. This diagnosis turned our world upside down. Alzheimer’s is something many associate with old age, but in Claudia’s case, it arrived far too early, changing every part of our lives and our family’s future.

We are blessed with three children: one who has graduated from college working as a teacher at Magnolia School in Houston and is now married to an extraordinary man, and together they have a newborn son; one who is currently in college; and one who is still in high school. Claudia has always been the heart and strength of our family. She was also our primary provider, working as a Director at Featherock Conference Center, a Catholic retreat center affiliated with Opus Dei. She loved her work and served others with faith, dedication, and compassion.

As her illness progressed, Claudia was no longer able to continue working. Losing her income was heartbreaking, but even more painful was watching her lose pieces of herself to this disease.

Today, Claudia is undergoing treatment with Leqembi (Lecanemab), along with ongoing infusions and therapies. These medical costs can reach up to $90,000 per year. Unfortunately, pharmaceutical assistance and government programs cover only a small portion of these expenses. The financial burden has become overwhelming.

I am now Claudia’s full-time caregiver while doing everything I can to support our children. As her needs increase, we also face the cost of hiring professional caregivers to ensure she receives the care, dignity, and safety she deserves. Between medical bills, treatments, caregiving, and everyday living expenses, it has become more than we can manage alone.

Asking for help does not come easily, but we have reached a point where we truly need the support of our community.
