On December 28th, Samantha and Zack Gregris welcomed their precious baby boy, Nico Rome Gregris, into the world. After a healthy, uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery, their hearts were full as they began life together as first-time parents. Shortly after birth, Nico suddenly began experiencing seizure episodes. Doctors then discovered that Nico had suffered bleeding in his brain, which was causing him to have persistent seizures. His parents could do nothing but stand by and pray as their tiny newborn fought a battle no baby should ever have to face.

While the bleeding is currently stable and the seizures have subsided with medication, the cause of Nico’s brain injury remains unknown. Nico continues to fight every day in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where he has been for three weeks. He is getting better and stronger every day but it is likely that Nico will need ongoing medical care and support moving forward. Samantha and Zack have spent these early weeks of parenthood navigating fear, heartbreak, and exhaustion.
