In July 2018, Archana Arya and her two young children traveled to India to visit her parents while her husband, Ram, remained at home in the U.S. to work. Tragically, Archana passed away suddenly due to complications from a routine medical procedure on August 6 days before they were scheduled to come home. Ram immediately traveled to India and arranged a funeral, planning to return home with their children and begin coping with this tremendous loss. On August 21 he received notification that his visa application had been suspended for 6-8 weeks. This leaves Ram unable to work, provide for his family, or regain any stability while his family lives in limbo, grieving in an unfamiliar culture with few family members or friends nearby. Ram's desire is to keep his children close while maintaining his home in the U.S. so they have a place to return to when the visa application is processed. However, with all of the unexpected travel expenses and inability to work, he is facing financial hardship and does not know how long he will be able to keep up.
