On December 2 our friend and neighbor Ali Abdul Hadi Erhaima was killed in a horrific car accident while working to support his family.  Having been the sole source of income, his family is going to need help in the coming weeks and months.

Ali was not just a neighbor and friend, he was a true American hero.  Nearly a decade ago, he was working security in Iraq for American soldiers.  After repeated threats on his life to stop working for the Americans, the threats were finally made good.  He was taken off the streets, shot multiple times and left for dead.  Miraculously he survived after he was found by some American soldiers.  He and his wife then made it to the US as refugees and worked to build a new life.

Ali leaves behind a wife and two elementary age children.  We aren't sure what their exact needs are at the moment, but we have all been touched by the kindness and generosity displayed toward us, his neighbors and friends, and we want to do something to help his family.  We want to do anything we can to help his wife and children through this tragedy, and we will update this page as we learn about any specific needs like funeral expenses, rent payments, etc.

I have received questions about Ali's name.  Ali went by "Ali Abdul Hadi" on Facebook and many of his friends call him this.  His first and last name, and name listed in the newspaper articles, is "Ali Erhaima".
