Our 6-month-old granddaughter, Evelina, is currently facing several serious medical conditions that require specialized treatment and travel.
She has been diagnosed with CONGENITAL GLAUCOMA, an eye condition that can lead to vision loss if not treated promptly. She needs eye surgery at JACKSON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL/HOLTZ CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL( Jackson-Palmer Eye Center) in Miami. We recently traveled there for her scheduled procedure, but it was postponed at the last minute due to concerns about her heart. After follow-up evaluations with her cardiologists in Pensacola, she has now been cleared, and we are working to reschedule her surgery as soon as possible.
In addition, Evelina has a right aortic arch with a vascular ring. This means her aortic arch curves in a way that can place pressure on her airway and esophagus, which may affect her breathing and feeding. She will need to travel to Orlando for a specialized pediatric CT scan and may require further treatment depending on the results. She is also undergoing genetic testing to rule out DiGeorge Syndrome.
Because Evelina requires constant medical care and monitoring, her mother, Carisma Sanchez is unable to work at this time. As her grandparents, Eric & Melinda Sanchez, we are helping as much as we can. We are raising funds to help with flights to Miami and Orlando, lodging (as Ronald McDonald House is currently full), transportation, food while traveling, parking, and medical expenses not covered by insurance.
Any support is greatly appreciated. Thank you for keeping Evelina and our family in your thoughts as we navigate her care.
