On May 12, 2024, my beloved husband Naveed Ahmad, experienced a life-altering tragedy. While spending a joyful day with our children at a swimming pool, he suffered a sudden heart attack. For over five minutes, he remained unnoticed underwater until rescue efforts brought him to safety. He was in the ICU at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Santa Clara, California, fought a critical battle for his life. Despite the best efforts of healthcare professionals, his road to recovery remained uncertain until May 22, 2024, when he passed away.

My husband was not just a devoted father but a distinguished civil engineer who has dedicated his career to teaching and research. As a former researcher at Stanford and a former professor at the University of Engineering and Technology in Pakistan, he has inspired and supported countless students. He was a member of the Pakistan Engineering Council's core group for Seismic Building Code, the European Association of Earthquake Engineering (EAEE), and the EERI, USA. He has served as an external examiner for Ph.D. candidates at the National University of Ireland, Galway. Additionally, he advised the KP Public Service Commission of Pakistan, assisting in oral examinations for Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil)/Inspector Factories (Technical) in C&W Deptt., LG&RD Deptt., and Labour Deptt. His dedication to education and community service has left a lasting impact on countless students and professionals. He played a crucial role in designing and verifying earthquake-resistant schools in Nepal through a project with the Asian Development Bank. His work at UET Peshawar's Earthquake Engineering Centre ensured safe reconstruction in earthquake-hit areas, contributing to the National Building Code of Nepal and enhancing building safety standards.
