Dixie has been in rapid decline with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis [the scaring of the lungs by an unknown cause], she struggles to breath and has lost almost half of her of her body weight in the last year. Due to her delayed diagnosis and rapid progression of the disease, she requires a double lung transplant to save her life. This procedure is not available in Nova Scotia, so Dixie and her husband David must temporarily relocate to Toronto this January for the transplant surgery and a year of follow up care to ensure her transplant is successful. Dixie is a retired Continuing Care Aide and now finds herself in need of critical care herself. Both Dixie and David are on fixed, modest incomes and any money raised will go towards helping them with the increased living expenses while relocating to Toronto for a year. All donations big and small will help with her and her husband to beat this disease and return to their children, and grandchildren who will be anxiously waiting for them in Nova Scotia.
