My name is Debbie and I am putting this together for my family who reside in Somerset MA. Here’s my story.
I would say it all started with the worse possible news. On Sunday 07/21/2019 we woke up to find our beloved son Jacob (28) who was autistic and the most sweetest boy and would do anything to see a smile on someone’s face, passed away from a seizure. Still not over that. Then 6 weeks later on Jacobs birthday, my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He started with all the treatments, radiation, hormone therapy, biopsy etc. 2 years later the treatment seemed to be working. His PSA levels went down and dr’s said he could take a “vacation” from his treatment.
Fast forward 4 years and he started with different symptoms. Pain in his back, vision problems, neck pain, hearing loss. Because of his pain, he decided to retire at 61 which he could since he worked for the town and was a marine veteran he had enough of time and money in his pension plan to be able to. Signed all his paperwork in August for his retirement but found out later, he missed some documents. Finished all documents in Dec 2025. Unbeknownst to me as to which option he chose, he wasn’t really good at paperwork, and did not ask for my help, picked the option to collect as long as he lived without the option to continue for his family when he passed. Balance at that point was 125,000.
He started doing projects around the house that he had time to do now. Fixing the house was his top priority. Started renovating the kitchen as well as other projects. Well, that did not last as he was feeling worse and worse so took him to the ER since his back was hurting really bad. Didn’t know what was to come from that 1 ER visit. Was diagnosed with a mass on the base of his skull, brain cancer , bone cancer and had a heart attack that he never knew he had. This was 04/29/26. In August I myself turned 65 and still working full time. I would take lots of time out of work and work from home to be able to take him to his many different drs appointments and to be his caregiver. On 08/23/26 he started slurring his words so, took him in to the ER to have him checked, they admitted him to do testing and on 08/27/2026 he passed away. Another heartbreak.
I am left with the mortgage, taxes and upkeep of the house that his dad had built in 1962. Just this week, the boiler went and is completely rotted out. No heat until I can come up with another 10,000 to replace. Any donation would be appreciated and share if you can. All we are asking for is for a little help to fix the boiler so we can have heat and maybe finish up the kitchen that Paul was not able to finish. Thank You
