Support Maria Cecilia Alvarez Rico's Funeral Expenses

Dear family, friends, and kindly strangers,

I am Yvette Rico, writing to you for my mother, Maria Cecilia Alvarez Rico. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021, only at stage two, and was going on to her second year of remission. On August 10th, 2024, she started to experience extreme pain on her right side. This led to an emergency visit to the hospital. Unfortunately, they gave us the news that the cancer had come back, metastasized mainly to her liver and other parts of her body now.

Since September 20th, 2024, she has been hospitalized at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She had become septic, and her kidneys are shutting down due to the damage from the cancer. They have started doing dialysis 3 to 4 times a week. We don’t know what the future holds, but our faith stays strong.

They have not been able to treat the cancer with chemotherapy until she becomes more stable. The doctors have been pretty clear that her prognosis is not good. Despite the news, my mom continues to fight, seeking any treatment possible.

She had been going regularly every 3 months for checkups where they kept telling us everything was okay. Her liver enzymes were starting to come back abnormal, but the doctor kept saying it was nothing to worry about and said it was a fatty liver with no scan/ultrasound. The doctor's negligence allowed the cancer to spread further into her body.

For this reason, and with deep humility, my family asks for support. Any help you can offer to our family would be invaluable and would make it easier to face this process with greater tranquility and fewer financial worries.

Queridos familiares, amigos y amables desconocidos, Soy Yvette Rico, les escribo en nombre de mi madre, María Cecilia Alvarez Rico. Le diagnosticaron cáncer de mama en 2021, solo en etapa dos, y estaba entrando en su segundo año de remisión. El 10 de agosto de 2024 comenzó a sentir un dolor extremo en el lado derecho. Esto motivó una visita de emergencia al hospital. Desafortunadamente, nos dieron la noticia de que el cáncer había regresado, ahora con metástasis principalmente en su hígado y otras partes de su cuerpo. Desde el 20 de septiembre de 2024 se encuentra hospitalizada en el Hospital Saint Francis de Tulsa, Oklahoma. Se había vuelto séptica y sus riñones están fallando debido al daño causado por el cáncer. Han comenzado a hacer diálisis de 3 a 4 veces por semana. No sabemos lo que nos depara el futuro, pero nuestra fe se mantiene fuerte. No han podido tratar el cáncer con quimioterapia hasta que se estabilice. Los médicos han sido bastante claros en que su pronóstico no es bueno. A pesar de la noticia, mi mamá sigue luchando, buscando cualquier tratamiento posible. Ella había estado yendo regularmente cada 3 meses a chequeos donde nos decían que todo estaba bien. Sus enzimas hepáticas estaban empezando a volverse anormales, pero el médico seguía diciendo que no había nada de qué preocuparse y dijo que era un hígado graso sin exploración ni ecografía. La negligencia del médico permitió que el cáncer se extendiera más por su cuerpo. Por eso, y con profunda humildad, mi familia pide apoyo. Cualquier ayuda que puedas ofrecer a nuestra familia sería invaluable y facilitaría afrontar este proceso con mayor tranquilidad y menos preocupaciones económicas.
