Matt and Brinley Sly recently welcomed their beautiful baby boy, McCoy, into the world. What should have been a time filled only with joy quickly turned into one of uncertainty and fear when they learned that McCoy was born with a serious congenital heart condition — hypoplastic right atrium and ventricle.

Because parts of McCoy’s heart are underdeveloped, doctors are closely monitoring his growth and strength. Before any surgery can even be considered, specialists must first perform a procedure using a camera to determine whether his heart has developed enough to make surgery possible. Right now, the family is living moment to moment, hoping and praying for positive news.

Matt and Brinley are also the loving parents of their daughter, Oakley, who is adjusting to life as a big sister during a time that looks very different than anyone expected. Instead of being home together as a family of four, their days are filled with hospital visits, conversations with doctors, and the emotional weight that comes with caring for a medically fragile newborn.

Medical expenses are beginning to accumulate, and time away from work is unavoidable as they remain by McCoy’s side and focus on his care.
