Hello, it's Chris and Finola here. We recently went to back to Nepal in October and met with our wonderful guide Arjun twice.
Arjun had a baby boy born in May 2025, but sadly the baby has some heart issues and will need to have surgery. The cost of that surgery is very high, and we are hoping to help raise some funds to make it possible for the operation to go ahead. Any donation is very welcome and appreciated. You are also welcome to send the money directly to Prakash; message Chris or Finola for his contact details.
Also on a logistical note: Funds from Gofundme cannot be sent to "unsupported" countries like Nepal, so we've set up the money to go to Chris directly, who will then transfer to Arjun.
We were sent a medical report from Prakash, that we used chat GPT to summarise but for anyone medically inclined who'd like more detail, here is the summary below:
The baby had several medical issues:
1️⃣ Congenital heart problems
- Complete AV defect (balanced) – a congenital heart defect involving holes in the center of the heart.
- Small closing PDA – a blood vessel that normally closes after birth is still open but getting smaller.
- ASD (Atrial Septal Defect) – a hole between the upper chambers of the heart.
- Severe PAH (Pulmonary Artery Hypertension) – high pressure in the lungs.
- Dilated RA & LA – the heart’s upper chambers are enlarged.
The baby has a “Complete AV Canal Defect (Balanced). In almost all cases, a Complete AV Canal Defect requires surgery.
Here’s why:
- This defect involves a large hole in the center of the heart.
- It causes too much blood flow to the lungs.
- Over time it can cause severe pulmonary hypertension (which the baby already has).
- Medicines alone cannot fix this defect.
