Fighting for More Time: Amber’s Next Steps

We all know Amber as the sweet, fun-loving single mom of her two 11 year old boys. Hardworking and humble, she manages to pay her mortgage and provide for her boys while still balancing herself and her home. With a long, happy life as a priority, you’ll find her in the gym 5 days a week, or playing disc golf while enjoying the outdoors in good company. She’s the most genuinely kindhearted friend that would go to any length for others whenever possible, especially for many of her lifelong friendships.

Unfortunately, a few weeks ago we received the terribly, gut wrenching news that Amber’s cancer is back. It has metastasized to her lymph nodes & lungs, and as of right now, she has been diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic melanoma. This has come to a complete shock to her friends, family, and partner as we grip tight to our tenacity and rally support. She has started her first immunotherapy infusions, and we remain both hopeful and in good spirit. Beyond the immunotherapy, she will also undergo chemo, multiple surgeries, biopsies and repeat imaging.

Amber has insurance, but her direct out of pocket costs will still be a substantial $14,000 dollars. Keep in mind, this is provided she can do all of her treatment and drugs in-network. We know Amber has a hard road, and in addition to her out of pocket insurance expenses, she will also miss work for infusions and treatments. The last thing we want is for her to worry about falling behind on treatment bills and still keeping the roof over her family’s head while she’s fighting this battle.
