SUPPORT ALYSSA´S FIGHT WITH NF1 (NEUROFIBROMATOSIS)
At the young age of 2 years old, beautiful ALYSSA KOVACIC was doing all the amazing things a two-year old does. She was full of love, energy and was living life as any ordinary two-year old would. She is the fun loving daughter of two passionate and hard working parents, Dan Kovacic and Angela Lebolo Kovacic, as well as being the younger sister to her brother that loves playing hockey at the rink and to a sister that sings like an angel.
Sadly, ALYSSA’s journey in life hit an unexpected barrier…one that could not be predicted or avoided…
In June 2019 her parents noticed something wasn’t right with her eye and ALYSSA was in pain and rushed her to the hospital. She underwent a series of tests and procedures. A team of medical professionals sadly communicated to her parents the devastating news that little ALYSSA had two rapidly growing brain tumors. One in her right optic nerve and another one in her hypothalamus (a part of the brain that has a vital role in controlling many bodily functions and which is inoperable).
Doctors informed ALYSSA’s parents that her condition was the result of Neurofibromatosis type 1, a genetic disorder that causes painful tumors. These tumors can develop aggressively in the nervous system, brain and spinal cord. Immediately following the diagnosis and in response to ALYSSA’s unbearable pain and suffering, sessions of chemotherapy were administered.
Despite the exhaustive efforts of chemotherapy, the endless prayers and countless tears our loving ALYSSA lost complete vision of her right eye. Doctors evaluated ALYSSA and informed her parents that she requires surgery to remove the optic nerve, resulting in the need for ALYSSA to have a Prosthetic Eye, which needs to be replaced every 3-5 years only a portion is covered by insurance.
Going forward, it is not clear what other treatments she may require. Throughout her life, she will have to live with this rare disease with not a lot of tangible solutions, as there is no cure for this disorder. The emotional toll along with loss of income and numerous out-of-pocket expenses is mounting for this family. ALYSSA’s mom had to stop working full time so she can care for Alyssa and the ongoing medical treatments and assessments. ALYSSA’s Dad balances his days between work, hospitals and the hockey arena.....

A la temprana edad de 2 años, la pequeña ALYSSA KOVACIC LEBOLO, realizaba las actividades que un niño de su edad debe hacer. Llena de mucho amor y muchísima energía vivía una vida normal. Ella es la princesa de 2 padres amorosos y trabajadores, Dan Kovacic y Angela Lebolo Kovacic, y hermana menor de un futuro estrella del hockey y de una niña q canta como un ángel. Su futuro se veía brillante como la de cualquier niño a esa edad….
Tristemente ese futuro prometedor se vería comprometido por un fuerte obstáculo que era inevitable e impredecible.
En Junio de 2019, ALYSSA fue trasladada de emergencia al hospital ya que sus padres notaron que algo no estaba bien con su ojo y sentia mucho dolor, allí le realizaron una seria de exámenes y procedimientos médicos. Tristemente, le comunicaron a sus Padres la devastadora noticia que ALYSSA tenía 2 tumores cerebrales los cuales estaban creciendo rápidamente. Uno en el nervio óptico derecho y el otro en el hipotálamo (parte del cerebro que cumple un papel vital en el control de muchas funciones corporales, el cual es inoperable)
Los doctores informaron que la razón de estos tumores, es debido a un desorden genético que tiene la pequeña, llamado Neurofibromatosis tipo 1, que genera la formación de dolorosos tumores en el sistema nervioso, el cerebro y la medula espinal. Luego de este diagnóstico, ALYSSA fue puesta bajo tratamiento de quimioterapia.
A pesar de las muchas sessiones de quimioterapia durante meses, de las oraciones y las incontables horas de angustia y llanto, los doctores informaron que ALYSSA ha perdido totalmente la visión en el ojo derecho. El siguiente paso es realizar una cirugía para remover uno de los tumores, lo que implica retirar su nervio óptico. Posteriormente se debe realizar otra operación para remover el ojo y colocarle una Prótesis que debe ser reemplazada cada 3 años la cual no está cubierta en su totalidad por el seguro.
El futuro y la salud de ALYSSA son completamente impredecibles, debido a que es una enfermedad poco común y no existen estudios o tratamientos que ofrezcan una solución tangible, al menos a un corto o mediano plazo. El costo emocional junto con la pérdida de ingresos ha sido enorme para esta familia, su madre tuvo que dejar de trabajar tiempo completo para dedicarse al cuidado de su hija que requiere constantes visitas médicas, sumado al esfuerzo enorme de ser mama de sus otros dos hijos; su Padre trata de balancear su vida trabajando tiempo completo, llevando su hijo al hockey, estando en el hospital y siendo un súper papa realmente.
Amigos y familiares hemos decidido realizar este GO FUND ME para recaudar fondos (Credit and Debit Card) y ayudar a esta familia en el largo y fuerte camino que les espera todavía. En principio serán utilizados para cubrir la prótesis del ojo, los incontables gastos que son impredecibles y constantes, reducir los costos de viaje, ya que el hospital se encuentra lejos de su hogar y tratar de ayudar a disminuir los gastos de tratamientos médicos. Por lo impredecible de esta enfermedad no hay forma de saber exactamente cuales serán los gastos totales que necesitara en un futuro.
Estamos seguros que ALYSSA y su familia tienen la fuerza y resistencia para seguir luchando contra esta horrible enfermedad, esperemos que esto sirva para aliviar de alguna forma el estrés económico.
