HOMELESS IN TACOMA AFTER LOSING EVERY⛵️⚓
In 1991, my father and I planned to sail the San Juan Islands together after my LDS mission. Two weeks before I came home, he passed away suddenly from a heart attack. That dream has stayed with me for 35 years.
Last year, I finally tried to make it happen. I bought a 1976 sailboat and learned to sail through a brutal Washington winter. After learning to sail in those challenging conditions, I know I'm ready for this journey. Then my engine failed, the boat started takingonwater, and I lost everything trying to save her.
I'm now homeless in Tacoma with my rescue dog Fonzarelli (who I saved from an abusive situation). But, I have a job waiting at Roche Harbor Resort starting June 14th as a deckhand for all the tourists. I just need a safe, seaworthy boat to get there and honor the promise I made to my dad.
My two beautiful daughters, Stevi and Ruby, are in their 20s and live in Salt Lake City. My dream is to have them join me in the San Juans this summer - to finally share those waters as a family, the way my father and I never got to.
Goal: $15,000
Reliable 25-30' sailboat: $12,000-$15,000
Safety equipment & immediate repairs: $2,000-$3,000
Initial moorage & registration: $1,000-$2,000
After 35 years, I'm finally ready to complete this journey with my father's memory as my guide, alongside Fonzarelli and hopefully my daughters. Any amount helps - even $5 gets me closer to those waters where we were supposed to sail together.
Thank you for helping me honor my dad and bring my family together in the San Juans.
