We are reaching out today to see if anyone is interested in helping a 97-year-old WW2 veteran with his monthly housing expense.

Meet James Haskins!

James was born on January 22, 1928, in Emporium, Pennsylvania. Upon turning 18, he was drafted into the Army and served in Japan during World War II. James has lived in Emporium, Buffalo, NY, and Florida during his lifetime. After the death of his second wife, Barbara, he moved back to Emporium. He lived with his beloved sister Bev for 16 years before he became basically homeless at 97 due to the death of his sister, who passed away from lung cancer a week after his grandson also passed from cancer.

Bev had owned her own home and had expressed many times that she would like for him to continue living there after her passing. However, her POA and executor of her will felt otherwise and gave away Bev's home a week before her death. They changed the locks on the home and refused to give a key to Jim, making him afraid to leave to go to the store, fearing she would lock the door and he would not be able to return home. They further isolated him by shutting off his phone and television, removing the dog he loved beyond all words, "Joey," and told him he needed to "get out" ASAP.

We are trying all legal means possible to rectify the situation; however, it is a slow process, and due to his remaining nieces doing their best to care for him, he decided to move into "Felt Living," a personal care facility located in Emporium.

Felt Living does not accept any type of medical assistance, and Jim is in great health and does not require enough medical assistance to be admitted and cared for in the "Manor."

Jim is a sweetheart! Always happy and makes the most of life. He takes care of the "neighbors" (as he calls them) at the assisted care facility, visits the senior center across the street to make crafts, and visits with his remaining nieces and friends.

We are hoping to fund the difference between the cost of his stay each month, less his social security and pension, approximately $1,600.00 a month.

Any assistance or help of any kind would be greatly appreciated!

UPDATE!!!!!! AS OF TODAY SEPTEMBER 9TH JAMES HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR THE AID AND ATTENDANCE FROM THE VETERANS ASSOCIATION!
