Supply Run is a short film about a young Ukrainian refugee called Iryna who is displaced from her home in Kharkiv and forced to take refuge with her mother on a small rural island off the southwest coast of Ireland. As her mother struggles with the toll of post-war living, Iryna embarks on a journey to the mainland to do the supply run. It’s here, on Halloween day, that she meets elderly local Fintan, and a relationship beyond words begins to form.

Supply Run is a film about home, fear, language, and hope. The film is inspired by a medley of true-to-life experiences and is grounded in reality. There are 50+ Ukrainians currently living on Sherkin Island. Sherkin is a beautiful island off the southwest coast of Cork... but it has no shop or school. Imagine being displaced from your home thousands of kilometres away and being dropped on an island like that. It’s unthinkable to most of us. Yet these Ukrainians have taken that challenge by the scruff of the neck and made Sherkin their home.

This is a film we feel is important to tell, especially now. With the world entangled in division and conflict, we hope this film can serve as a small light in the dark.

Our Approach

We will be shooting the film over three days in Late Spring 2026.

We’ll be utilising a combination of established Irish crew, Ukrainian crew now working in Ireland, and young local filmmakers.

We see this film as more than a film, it’s also a community project. A project that echoes the feelings of the story by championing a spirit of unity through every part of the process.

What Stage Are We At?

We’re currently in pre-production. Casting is underway and crewing is in progress. We’re engaging with the local community, preparing for location recces in March, and planning our shoot days.

We hope the film will not only travel far and wide, but also touch, move, and inspire people to see the world differently.
