Hi Everyone and Happy 2020! What a shit year! We got it though but yea..
This fundraiser will concurrently support us as well as a community artist initiative for the New Orleans queer black community
Studio Lalala is at a critical impasse. We have recently purchased two 4K Black Magic Pocket Cameras Link Here, both are high resolution cinematic cameras. The new equipment has helped us get more work and shaped our ability to have creative autonomy. However, the laptops we currently own are obsolete and dont have the ability to read or edit any footage we have shot thus far. So we need new laptop’s to move forward.
We want to make sure that this investment lasts for the next 3 to 4 years. To save money, we have decided to move from MacOS to a window’s operating system, because they are cheaper and have the ability to to be upgraded allowing more longevity.
Minimum requirements for 4k/6k footage
Storage to at least 1T
Memory to 32GB or 64GB
Operating System to i7 or above
Most laptops with these specs averages around $2600,00 before tax
Here is an example, this Dell XPS starts at 1200.00 but after upgrading the hardware, the new price is 2599.00
Look for yourself
Both us are self-taught filmmakers and would like to take this opportunity to take two classes to elevate out post production skills.
After Effects, the industry-standard motion graphics and visual effects software
Davinci Resolve, professional 8K editing, color correction, visual effects and audio software
Here is a little history about us!
Studio LaLaLa is a Black and Trans operated production team and space that aims to be a community resource as well as a hub for marginalized artists in need of a work space. We want to gather and centralize resources for DIY mixed media production so that marginalized artists can access the tools they need to realize their artistic visions and make their voices heard. Almost immediately after its conception, Studio LaLaLa became a resource to many artists in our community. As more folks started utilizing the space, it became clear that an accessible art space was necessary for a community of marginalized artists like ourselves .
In April 2019 our dreams were shattered. Studio LaLaLa was shut down by the fire marshal because of (you guessed it!) white supremacy. It was absolutely devastating to see a year's work of physical labor and money go down the tubes. The battle with trying to find a new location has been long and hard in this ever changing city landscape.
Thankfully, this year we were offered space in a warehouse that also houses the New Orleans Mutual Aid. Drawing from that energy we are proposing a community initiative to bring development and support to local black artists. Inside it will house a few different libraries including the new home for the anarchist library; The Iron Rail.
Our space within the building will have 2 studio computers with access to the full Adobe Suite. Our gear check out system will emulate community based methods like ShareGrid, which is only available in major cities. You will be able to come into the space (still unnamed) log onto the computers and view an inventory list. Then use our system to request equipment that we will approve and give you a time and place to pick it up. First we are going to experiment with just doing STARTER PACKS and individual camera rentals and eventually once kinks are worked out move on from there!

The building this will be housed in is still being built but our plan is to have the system functional by 2021. These packs will always be FREE for Black and Trans led events. Sliding scale donations for everyone else (yes, absolutely everything we are buying will have insurance)
Having this equipment will not only change our lives but also the lives of many other Black and Trans DIY filmmakers and musicians in New Orleans and beyond
Thank you for your time! Please help us move forward!
This is a tentative list of proposed Equipment because insurance for each item deeply varies and we will access what is best based on need when the time comes.
