Stop the Sale of Fire Island Cabin
Donation protected
This week, the Appalachian Mountain Club ("AMC") abruptly announced that it intends to sell the Fire Island Cabin, one of their regional cabins located on New York's Great South Bay. We are asking for donations to help defray costs to help stop this sale and to begin a process for a review of alternatives.
The Fire Island Cabin (“FIC”) sits on 1.4 wooded acres in Atlantique, Long Island, New York. Upon information and belief, it was bequeathed to the local chapter over 90 years ago as land to be protected from development. FIC is the only all volunteer run cabin of AMC. It hosts 2000 people a season, and serves as an oasis of nature, recreation, and goodwill in the midst of a metropolis of 20 million people.
This rushed FIC land grab by AMC HQ does not seem to support the NY/NJ Chapters constituency, volunteers, nor priorities. #StopAMCsellout
We appreciate any funds you can spare to stop this sale. Funds will be used for legal costs and defer cost of Boston trip to see AMC Board. Thank you.
