On Saturday, September 26th, a vibrant, bright autumn morning turned into every parent’s worst nightmare.

Aakash Prakash—a bright, kindhearted 15-year-old sophomore—was doing what he loves most: running cross-country with his teammates in Allentown. Without warning, a massive tree branch collapsed onto him. In an instant, a Saturday morning practice transformed into a desperate battle for survival.

Aakash suffered immediate cardiac arrest at the scene. Thanks to the extraordinary, quick-thinking emergency responders, CPR restored his heart rhythm before he was rushed to the hospital. But the full extent of his injuries is overwhelming. Aakash sustained a severe traumatic brain injury, extensive spinal fractures (including his C4 cervical spine), pulmonary contusions, and profound physical trauma.

To give his brain a chance to heal, surgeons performed emergency neurosurgery. Right now, Aakash remains in critical condition on life support, fighting courageously minute by minute, surrounded by doctors, nurses, and a family whose hearts are broken into a million pieces.

Those who know Aakash know his spirit—he is energetic, fiercely dedicated, academic, and deeply loyal to his friends and family. He has so much life left to live, so many miles left to run, and a future that should be wide open.

While Aakash fights with everything he has, his family is facing an agonizing journey ahead. Beyond the overwhelming heartbreak, the financial reality of long-term neuro-ICU care, specialized spinal rehabilitation, home equipment, and around-the-clock medical support is staggering.

No family should ever have to balance the devastation of fighting for their child’s life with the crushing stress of catastrophic medical bills.
