Stand by Tom Herwick in His Time of Need

I’m reaching out to ask for your help in supporting friend of Fire Mountain —Tom Herwick. Tom’s life has been one of resilience and service, deeply shaped by his Scouting journey and dedication to volunteering. Today, he faces serious health and financial challenges, and we’re raising funds through GoFundMe to help him get the support he needs.

Why We’re Raising Funds

Tom has spent his life giving back. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout and dedicated decades to Scouting, volunteering as a Scoutmaster with local troops serving as a part of summer camp staff for many years and improving Fire Mountain Scout Camp by rebuilding critical structures and introducing cherished traditions like the Talking Stick ceremony. Beyond Scouting, he served as a firefighter, paramedic, an ER nurse, search and rescue volunteer, educator, and foster parent, always embodying the values of service and leadership.

Now, Tom is battling significant health challenges, including ankylosing spondylitis, Crohn’s disease, peripheral neuropathy, and ankylosing spondylitis - a form of MS. These conditions have caused mobility issues, falls, and costly medical needs. In addition to his health struggles, Tom faces overwhelming financial burdens. He needs $6,000 annually to meet Medicare’s spend-down requirement, plus additional funds for essential treatments, home modifications, and storm-related repairs to his home.
