Snowdon Ultra Marathon for Alzheimer’s Society
Myself (Thom) and my best mate Michael have signed up for the Rat Race Sea-to-Summit Ultra Marathon which navigates 50km around Snowdonia from the sea to the summit of Snowdon. The course takes in 2000 metres of vertical elevation across very technical terrain.
With the longest run either of us had done before January 2024 being only 5km, we’ve got an awful lot of work to do before the race starts on the 12th of October.
We have both had family members diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and have experienced the distress and pain it causes first hand. We thought it would be a perfect way to raise some money for a charity close to our and our families hearts by signing up for a very ambitious race. Please read below for Alzheimer’s Society’s statement.
At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research. One in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia in their lifetime. We don’t want anyone to face the realities of dementia alone. That’s why your support is vital.
