Update 4/16/2024
Hello Everyone,
This is Kika's husband AJ. Kika is currently in the ICU. Kika was accepted into trial treatment program at MD Anderson earlier this year. The treatment was unsuccessful. The cancer continued to spread and now she doesn't have much time left with us. I thank you all for the support you have shown my queen and my family. We love you. I will post another update once more information is available. Thank you.
Since July 2021, I’ve been managing a rare life-threatening cancer diagnosis. In the first year of treatment, I was hospitalized six times to receive chemotherapy; I had 25 radiation therapies; and three surgeries. The first surgery was on my lung; and the second and third surgery involved a resection of my hamstring which required me to be bedridden for two-and-a-half months.
I made my way through several months of physical therapy and my vitals were looking great, until November 2022, and learned that the cancer reappeared. From December 2022 through May 2023 I went through several protocols of chemotherapy.
In August 2023 I experienced a nearly catastrophic health event as a complication of my cancer, and had to undergo life-changing brain surgery, all while trying to pursue possible life saving treatment. Promptly recovering from brain surgery I underwent four rounds of in-patient chemotherapy from September through December 2023; out of state, in another major city.
Despite the hurdle of brain surgery, and recovery, I’m steadfast to receive more treatment in the coming months. Previous to this emergency health event, I have a par-for-the course treatment plan lined up that will put me in the hospital for two 21-day hospitalizations over the course of the next year. The first of these treatments beginning this month (January 2024).
I’m fundraising for costs including: long distance travel; food and accommodations during recovery; medical bills for screening procedures; costs that are not covered by health insurance; and costs that an institutional sponsor will not cover during my projected long-term hospitalizations.
I’m the one who is personally maintaining my GoFundMe campaign and am unable to respond quickly to questions and concerns regarding my story. Please bear with me as I am just one person. If you are interested in reaching out to me to donate outside of the GoFundMe platform feel free to email me at cancerisac.nt at gmail or on FB messenger to donate to me directly on cash app, Venmo, by check, or money order. Or if you would like to receive any TESTIMONIAL of how I got to this point of MY JOURNEY.
Friends, family, friends of family, friends of friends, COMMUNITY!: Please show your love! Love is not truly measured by numbers, but if you feel compelled to give ANY amount, I know your LOVE is poured into it.
please. Feel free to share far and wide.
MUCH LOVE, Kika AKA Quiqua Laurel aka Frankie
