Shannon's Italy Trip 2017

Hello Friends and Family!
As most of you know, I am halfway through my 2nd semester at Missouri State University as a music education major. I want to update you all on what I have been up to and what opportunities are ahead of me.
I will say that I have been extremely blessed to have ended up at Missouri State. God really knew what He was doing when He directed me here! I have encountered some unimaginable opportunities. During my 1st semester, I auditioned for the choir program and was selected to be in the University’s top choir, Chorale. In this group, there are always opportunities coming my way. One example of this was the opportunity to sing at the 2017 Presidential Inauguration. The trip was amazing! I witnessed different scenes of history in our nation’s capital, saw our nation’s leaders, and became a part of history by singing at this event. Immediately prior to this trip, Chorale travelled through northern Arkansas and southwestern Missouri, touring high schools as recruitment for our program. I met dozens of choir directors and prospective Missouri State choir students. Along with all the things I am doing musically, I am also taking a full load of coursework. During my first semester, I also completed my first practicum experience. This was such an exciting time! I observed middle school, high school, and elementary school music classrooms, learning from the teachers and getting a picture of what being a music teacher will look like for me. These types of experiences have helped direct me into a more focused path for my career. As much as this may not be a surprise to some of you, I was surprised to find that I enjoyed the elementary school classes the most. I look forward to spending even more time in elementary school music classes and learning more and more about teaching in this setting.
On the music side of my career, I have been presented with a unique opportunity to study choral music abroad this summer in Italy! On this trip, I will learn first-hand about Italian culture, food, history, and most importantly music. I couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity! I will be traveling with some members of the choirs at MSU as well as some alumni of the choir program. During the trip, I will sing in multiple concerts throughout Italy, one of which will take place inside the Vatican! Some of our other concerts will take place in Assisi, Spoleto, Sao Paulo bel Sito, and others.
My entire college journey could not have been possible without your support, and I thank you for the encouragement, support, thoughts, and prayers that have been sent my way! As I continue this journey through study and experience, I am asking you once again for your support. I am hoping to fundraise about $2,000 in the next month, and I would love to have your help as I get ready for this trip. Every bit of support really can help me make this trip a reality! My deadline to have the funds is April 30. Thank you in advance for all your support!
