It is with a heavy heart that I'm sitting here struggling to find the words to write this. As a family we are heartbroken and at a lost.
SFC Saruon Som came to the states with our parents and second oldest brother fleeing an war, and as our family settle down in a new world, we began to grow into a big family. When our father passed, Saroun had taken the role of not just big brother/ but as a father figure. We all looked up to him with such admiration, as if he had hung up the moon and stars in the sky.
He joined the United States Army to serve our country and to be a hero to his family. Saruon knew he wanted to retire from the military, settle down with his wife and children. He loved the life he lived and wanted the best for them.
His friends and family knew him as a hero. To his coworkers, he was a selfless and hard working man. Saruon would be the first person to help someone in need and give someone his lost dollar.
Saruon was one of a kind. He was a man of few words, but had a laugh and smile that was contagious. He would always know when someone was hurting or sad and would listen to them. He dreamed of a simple life when he retired from the service, he wanted to settle down with a big family and teach his children how to appreciate the simple life.
He was the toughest, most caring, badass person we've known. He lived his life off of making those around him laugh and thrived from seeing everyone happy. Saroun lived for his family and his career but after his first deployment, he came home with invisible wounds and after each deployment the wounds became to heavy on his soul.
Sadly, Saroun decided to end his pain and lost his battle to PTSD on October 7, 2020. He left behind his wife Naren, 7 children, and a family that loves him unconditionally.
Many of you have been reaching out asking how you can help especially those who are so far away. We ask you to continue to keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during these unbearable times. Your kind words, thoughts and prayers will not go unnoticed.
Your contributions will be used to offset funeral services/arrangements, the cost of family members flights, funeral meals and housing accommodations for family members flying in from across the united states.
Any & all unused/extra funds will go to his wife & children
