Service Dog for Superman!

Superman* arrived in our home December 2013...broken and bruised in body and spirit. Born in January of 2013, he had been fighting for his life since before he was born. But the night of December 8 he nearly died at the hands of an abuser. We do not want to detail his condition too much in this space, but there were fractures from head to toe, as well as subdermal hematomas and other injuries. We prepared our children for this little one coming to stay who would come battered and swollen, sick and hurting. His sweet fighting spirit immediately captured their hearts and he has been "Superman" ever since. From that time on, we have been blessed to help him heal with a terrific medical team--doctors, specialists, and therapists, a beautiful hard working CASA worker and a CPS worker with a bear of a heart our kids nicknamed "Mr. Bubbles." Today, he is adopted and has made miraculous strides. He is speaking now, but still struggles to eat. And while we are so happy for the miracle he is, Superman still struggles with the effects of a traumatic brain injury and severe PTSD. He has horrible night terrors which make nights long and sleepless. He is afraid when we leave the room, at times standing rooted to the spot, frozen in fear. Fairly often, he will be so triggered that he will vomit. Frequently, he is afraid to leave home, is terrified of loud noises and crowds or parties and when we come home, we spend hours rocking him back and forth in a chair while he is curled up in our arms, wrapped in a blanket. A few months ago, we began to notice how his spirit reacted to and then calmed when he was around my son's rescue dogs and an idea to help Superman was born. We have found a terrific trainer who specializes in service dogs for children, especially those with PTSD. We ask for your help in bringing hope and healing to our little guy who is so bravely fighting a battle every day of his life.
