Service Dog for Nico Candelaria
**UPDATE: I finally got the info from Service Dogs of NM and Academy of Canine Excellence, so I have updated the goal to take care of both the adoption, health, and equipment costs, plus the advanced assistance dog training. Thank you so much!***
Hi, my name is Nico Candelaria and I’m fundraising for a service dog for myself. I am a health care worker that contracted Covid-19 in December 2020 while on the job. Since December, I now have Post Acute Covid Syndrome which has left me dealing with several issues; shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, extreme fatigue, cognitive issues, impaired my vision, balance and mobility issues.
As a result, I am on long term disability, cannot drive, use a walker now at home to get around and a wheelchair whenever I go out for medical appointments. Due to all of these issues, I am in need of a service dog to help with stability, mobility and help me open doors, etc.
As a healthcare worker, I work with vulnerable populations and want to get back to work full time so I can serve my community and with the help of a service dog, I can make that happen!
I cannot afford the cost of the service dog and it’s training at this time due to medical bills and reduced income from long term disability but I desperately am in need of one due to my medical problems.
Costs:
Dog Adoption Fee: $1500
Application Fees: $175
Vaccinations and Supplies: $450
Puppy Training Classes: $700
Adult Service Dog Training: $6400
Total: $8595 (oops I did the math wrong the totally is actually $9225)
I know that money is tight right now but I would greatly appreciate any donation that you can give even just $5 would help! Donations will go towards the purchase of a service dog and it’s training from Service Dogs of New Mexico.
I would also ask you to please help me spread the word by reposting this on your social media.
Thank you so much, Nico
