TRAILWALKER 4 friends,100km in 24 hours
Donation protected
My three friends(Dinkar Bisht, Frederico Miranda and Adithya Suresh) and I plan to walk 100 km in 24 hours this September 24th In support of Oxfam and The Gurkha Welfare Trust.
The Gurkha regiment of the British Army is reputed for being amongst the world's finest and most feared soldiers. Their immense skill and endurance impressed British officers nearly 200 years ago, and they quickly realised the potential of having such an elite fighting team on their side. In several battles thence, they have proven time and time again their worth to the Army, rightfully earning them the title of one of Britain’s finest soldiers.
Fast-forward to the present day – The Royal Gurkha Rifles, a Battalion of the British Army, are still considered one of the most formidable foot soldiers in the world. The Gurkha soldiers are exclusively recruited from Nepal, maintaining their regiment’s prowess and skill as it was two centuries ago.
However, in addition to their military duties, they also play an active role in the community, helping raise funds and providing much-needed support when times get tough.
Perhaps one that struck a note with us was when a team of Gurkha soldiers ran the equivalent length of the UK (about 1956 km) to help raise around 6300 GBP for an NHS hospital trust in 2020. The Troops took turns to run laps day and night, representing the ‘round clock’ care being provided by NHS staff, to show appreciation and give the much-needed inspiration to help us keep going.
Today, our team - which consists of 4 A&E physicians - want to give back to the Gurkha regimen by participating in this 100 km walk organised by the Gurkha Welfare Trust. All proceedings will go toward financial, medical and development aid to Gurkha veterans, their families and communities.
The goal is to raise 3000 GBP from our team to support them in their time of need as they helped us in ours. So we would appreciate any contribution, big or small, to keep this proud militia in dignity, always.
